Get to know me

Hi everyone! I thought it would be a good idea to ask a few of my friends and family what questions they would like to ask for a ‘get to know me’ post. So here are my answers...hope you all enjoy :)

3 random facts about me

  1. I have a twin sister - we love each other but also hate each other ;)

  2. I have a scar on my left eyebrow from falling into the corner of a table when I was younger! (I'd like to say it's my trademark haha)

  3. I know three national anthems! American, New Zealand (in Maori too), and Australian.

Where did I grow up?

I actually moved around a bit growing up because of my dad’s job. I was born in Sydney (and live there now) but have also lived in Malaysia, South Korea, India, the US, and New Zealand. I would say I remember most of my childhood in the US (in Michigan) and New Zealand.

Some favourites...

Favourite food

I’d have to say pasta! Which is funny because I don’t actually have it that often. It's because i’m kind of annoying in that I'm picky with pasta and don’t generally like it store-bought…I feel like you can tell when it’s homemade because it’s made with love, which makes it a thousand times better! Gnocchi and fussili are my faves, with either homemade pesto, vodka sauce or something with truffle. And always topped with parmesean <3

Favourite dessert

I have a really big sweet tooth and have dessert every single day! If I'm at home I love having thick coconut yoghurt with cacao nibs, frozen blueberries and peanut butter, but if I could have anything it would be hot apple pie or crumble with cold vanilla ice cream...yum.

Favourite drink

My favourite alcoholic drink is either an Aperol Spritz or a really nice red wine - my favourite is a 2016 Cab Sav from Wise Wine. I also love Roku gin with tonic or soda, with a slice of lime.

Favourite fruit and vegetable

Fruit would be either mango or raspberries, and I really love vegetables so I’m choosing three! Pumpkin, potato and eggplant.

Favourite thing to cook

A warm hearty dinner that brings people together...probably involving roasted vegetables...

Favourite book

I'm currently reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy (J. R. R. Tolkein) but if we’re basing this off of a book I've finished then I'll have to go with The Hobbit - I love the adventure and wholesomeness in them.

Favourite movie

The Devil Wears Prada! I can quote every single line. I relate to Andy so much and also love all the fashion and outfits because i’m such a girly-girl. Bridesmaids is also hilarious, and Interstellar is another favourite.

Favourite TV shows

Off the top of my head I would have to say Parks and Rec., Friends, The Office, Gilmore Girls and Game of Thrones!

Favourite song

She Will be Loved by Maroon 5. I also love many old (and mostly sad) Taylor Swift songs but am semi embarrassed to admit that.

Favourite place I've visited

Italy HANDS DOWN! I love the culture so much and my absolute favourite place is a small town in Lake Garda called Sirmione that my family and I visited once and then my sister and I revisited a couple years later. It’s not as well known but is so beautiful and charming. There’s an old castle you can visit with an amazing view of the town and lots of incredible small restaurants. You can hire a boat to go around the lake and visit other towns or go swimming, and they also have old ruins you can explore with a giant olive grove and lemon trees. It’s really so different to any place I've visited.

I also love Amboise in France. It's a beautiful old town in the Loire Valley, which has so many beautiful chateaus and castles you can visit. Leonardo Da Vinci lived there before he died and some of his final art pieces are in a gallery. The town is very small but feels magical, and the pastries are the best i've ever had.

Something I consider underrated

Nutmeg! It adds the nicest flavour to both savoury and sweet food and always reminds me of Christmas but for some reason we usually only save it for festive foods?

Something I consider overrated

Acai bowls...I can just make them at home and usually the ones at cafes are too sweet. I wouldn’t pay $15 for one.

One thing I believe to be true that most people don’t

I love to take comfort in the idea that the universe watches out for all of us and has a plan for us :)

My biggest fear

My biggest fear is living my life with regret. I really don’t want to reach the end and feel like I didn’t take the risks I wanted or that I settled in any way. At the same time I find it hard to take risks because I can overthink things and have always struggled with anxiety. So it’s a work in progress but I'm so proud of myself every time I step out of my comfort zone.

Guilty pleasure

Probably coffee…I know it can sometimes make me feel more anxious but I honestly love it.

3 foods I couldn’t live without

Vegetables, tahini and peanut butter!

3 people that inspire me

Miranda Kerr, Rens Kroes and my boyfriend :)

'What advice would you give your 16 year old self?'

To accept and love myself exactly how I am. I have only just come to the realisation that my life is so much happier by doing this (although definitely still a work in progress). And not only this, but to be confident and proud of myself too. I think insecurity is the biggest thing that holds us back from doing bigger things.

...that probably covers everything! If anyone wants to ask anything I would love to answer so please leave a comment, and I'd love to know your name and one thing you find underrated :)
